Who We Are...
AK Institute of Special Education (school for deaf & dumb boys & girls) started in January, 2002 under the supervision of AJK Deaf Welfare Association (AJKDWA), Kotli. The organization has been working for the welfare of deaf & dumb boys and girls of the area including formal education, marriage, promotion of sports, their adjustment in Govt. offices as per quota, rehabilitation and other things related to their careers. The organization keeps in view the overall welfare of deaf and dumb boys and girls of different areas of AJK. In December, 2002 a hostel for boys was started and since then both school and hostel have been functioning simultaneously. The school was started with four students from nursery class and the number of which are continuously increasing with the passage of time...
Our Goal
The AK Institution of Special Education is the only institution of its kind throughout the whole of Azad Kashmir where hostel and technical training facilities are available.
However the institution has no regular source of income and it is absolutely dependable on charity. The government of A.JK casually helps it whereas some individual philanthropists extend their cooperation time to time. Due to lack of regular source of income the institution is quite unable to meet the necessary expenses and that is the only bar to extend its capacity.
At least two hundred more students can avail the educational facilities from this institution but they can not do this due to limited class rooms, lack of transportation and hostel facilities for girl students. The school is being run in a rented building and the rent of which is increased every year by the land lord. At the moment the school is hardly bearing the cost of rent.
The special children have multi-dimensional problems. First of all they should be provided with formal education along with vocational training and finally rehabilitation facilities. In order to make them the useful citizens of the country they need a work place from where they can generate their income for their livelihood.
The Institution has a plan to develop in three phases i.e.
i) To provide them formal education.
ii) To arrange vocational training.
iii) To establish cottage industry for their permanent rehabilitation.
To achieve this target a huge amount is needed which could be generated through cooperation from national and international donors.
